AI is at the core of three announcements from major media firms today, including generative AI and voice-based AI.

Xumo TV, an Internet TV and consumer electronics firm operated in partnership by Charter Communications and Comcast, has integrated AI in the updated user interfaces on its smart TVs, according to a report from Media Play News.

AI functions include adaptive backgrounds that shift based on content, and the platform now offers personalized recommendations along with content from Xumo TV editors.

The news comes alongside similar AI investments from firms like Amazon, which announced its initiative to bring AI-powered voice search in Fire TV, as reported by Tech Crunch. Planned features include empowering Alexa to answer questions about movies and shows, to help users find content, and to recommend content.

Generative AI underscores today's announcement from media firm Fable, which is launching Showrunner. As reported by Venture Beat, Showrunner is an AI platform designed to allow users to create their own TV shows via prompts.

"The next Netflix won't be purely passive. You will be at home, describe the show you'd like to watch and within a minute or two start watching," Edward Saatchi, CEO at Fable, said in the report. "Finish a show that you enjoy and make new episodes, and even put yourself and your friends in episodes – fighting aliens, in your favorite sitcom and solving crimes."
