Wayve, a London-based self-driving car technology startup, has announced its global expansion strategy and has begun testing its AI-powered Ford Mach-E cars in California, according to an interview with Alex Kendall, CEO at Wayve, with Business Insider India.

The news comes after Wayve received more than $1 billion in funding from Microsoft, Nvidia and SoftBank, according to the Business Insider report, which positioned the firm to expand amid competition from rivals like Waymo and Zoox.

Wayve has also partnered with Uber, with plans to use Wayve software in consumer vehicles before eventually producing robotaxis for the Uber platform.

"There's going to be some new challenges, whether it's driving on the right side of the road, four-way stop signs, or right turn on a red," Kendall remarked on the start of U.S. road testing during the Business Insider interview. "These are things that we don't have in the U.K."
