Waymo, a self-driving robotaxi provider owned by Alphabet, has signalled interest in exploring the use of Google's Gemini AI system to train Waymo robotaxis, according to a report from The Verge.

Waymo's October 30 research paper on the topic of "End-to-End Multimodal Model for Autonomous Driving," also known as EMMA, in which it states its desire "to develop an autonomous driving system in which the MLLM is a first-class citizen," in part by leveraging LLM skills in "chain-of-thought reasoning," as quoted by The Verge.
