Walmart and Wing, an on-demand drone delivery provider powered by Google's parent company Alphabet, are deploying drone delivery from two Dallas metro stores in the next few months.
The retailer began its drone delivery strategy two years ago and now offers it across seven states and 36 stores and has completed more than 10,000 safe deliveries, according to a blog post by Prathibha Rajashekhar, SVP of innovation and automation for Walmart U.S.
"Working with Wing directly aligns with our passion for finding innovative and eco-friendly last-mile delivery solutions to get customers the items they want, when they want them. With drones that can fly beyond visual line of sight, we're able to unlock on-demand delivery for customers living within an approximate 6-mile range of the stores that offer the service," he wrote in the blog post.
The first Dallas store offering drone delivery will be the Walmart Supercenter at 8555 Preston Road in Frisco, Texas. It will join Walmart's network of 11 drone hubs already operating in the Dallas area.
When available, customer will be able to download the Wing app, available at the App Store and Google Play, and plug in their address to see if their home is within the drone delivery range.
