Vehicles For Change (a.k.a. VFC) is leveraging virtual reality to teach job skills to incarcerated persons, according to a press release.

The VFC Virtual Reality (VR) Auto Mechanic Training Program is the first of its kind to be offered in the correctional facility environment and has been deployed in the Maryland Correctional Institution for Women in Jessup, Maryland.

Two groups of incarcerated women have successfully graduated from the program with VFC's VR certification, which involves studying in a virtual garage using curriculum created by master technicians.

"Skills training like this is usually very expensive," Marty Schwartz, president at VFC, said in the release. "However, virtual reality training cuts costs by 75% while still providing instruction on basic auto mechanic skills."
