Students at the University of Michigan will have access to health and wellness products at vending machines, including naloxone nasal spray, emergency contraception and COVID-19 tests, according to a report in The University Record.
Two machines have been installed on the fourth floor of the Ann Arbor campus Michigan Union and on the second floor of the Dearborn campus Renick University Center at UM-Dearborn. Later this month, a third machine will be installed on the UM-Flint campus Harding Mott University Center.
The machines will also offer tampons, pain relievers, bandages and other common over-the-counter items. A second over-the-counter oral contraceptive pill also will be added once it becomes available from the manufacturer.
A U-M task force recommended the machines as a result of the U.S. Supreme Court's 2022 decision overturning previous rulings legalizing abortion nationwide and leaving regulation up to the states.
