U.K. railways have proposed closing as many as 1,000 ticket offices since most ticket sales are from vending machines or online, according to a upi.com report.
The proposal by RDG, which represents 47 rail companies, to close offices in all but the most heavily used stations has been criticized by unions which plan to oppose the move.
The plan is to close the offices over three years and move ticket staff to customer service roles.
