Twenty-one Mississippi elementary schools will have fully stocked book vending machines thanks to an education initiative by Toyota Mississippi, according to a Daily Journal report.

The company delivered fully stocked machines to two schools Tuesday, Shannon Elementary School and Shannon Primary School. The rest of the schools are expected to receive their book machines in mid-January.

The machines are each designed, delivered and stocked with 176 books by Reading for Education, a Mufreesboro, Tennessee-based provider of education programs for schools, at a cost of close to $140,000. The schools will be responsible for restocking the machines as books are removed.

School administrators will offer students tokens to use to get books from the machines as rewards for good behavior, academic performance or special occasions.
