Tomra has reached a milestone of 500 reverse vending machines for beverage container recycling and has named Michelle Landon as the regional service director for the Americas, a newly created position, according to company announcements.
The 500 machines have been installed in retail stores and redemption centers.
Landon will be based at the company's Charlotte, North Carolina, North American headquarters and will direct the teams responsible for installation, optimization and commissioning of sorting equipment and technology throughout North and South America. She will also oversee the maintenance, spare parts, training and optimization programs.
Launched in 2019, these "multi-feed" reverse vending machines are now live in 16 countries — with parallel milestones of over 400 machines installed in Northern Europe and over 200 in Sweden alone.
Multi-feed returns enable recyclers to pour over 100 empty beverage containers into the reverse vending machine before replenishing the machine for a more efficient recycling experience. When returning over 100 beverage containers, recycling is up to five times faster than using a single-feed solution since containers do not need to be inserted one at a time.
