Target tests limiting self checkout to 10 items

Target Corp. has limited self checkout to 10 items in select stores on a test basis as an effort to reduce wait times, according to a Star-Tribune report.

Signs advising customers of the 10-item limit were placed at the Edina, Minnesota store near the Galleria and Southdale Center Tuesday evening, along with smaller signs at each machine to remind shoppers it is an "express lane."

The self-checkout kiosks closest to the grocery section remained unlimited.

The store also included two staffed checkout lanes marked as "express lane 10 items."
