Standard AI, a San Francisco based provider of AI powered retail self-checkout technology, has extended its Vision platform to include the tobacco, beer and fresh food /grab-and-go sections of the store, according to a press release.

Three to five cameras are installed over the transaction zone to monitor every interaction with the shelves.

Out-of-stock notifications are delivered for real-time inventory management.

Suspected theft is captured via video clip and is accessible by store management.

The system provides analytics, trends and insights for a deeper understanding of shopping behavior and theft trends in that zone.

In consideration of privacy concerns, the Vison platform does not use facial recognition. Nor does it gather demographics information, focusing strictly on kinematics, such as the manner in which customers interact with shelves.

Future extensions will include lottery, cash drawer, fuel and beyond,

Friendly Express, a convenience store chain serving Georgia, has already deployed the Standard AI Skip self-checkout system.

"We've used Skip self-checkout to help augment our in-store teams and better the shopper experience," Amy Wood, director of IT, Friendly Express, said in the press release. "We are excited about the promise of new Tobacco and Fresh Food Trackers to help us lower shrink and ensure the right products are on the shelf when customers want them."
