OpenAI, an AI firm and creator of ChatGPT software, has launched GPT-4o, an update to the GPT-4 system that features live conversation capabilities, according to a CNN report.
"This is the first time that we are really making a huge step forward when it comes to the ease of use," Mira Murati, CTO at OpenAI, told the news outlet. "This interaction becomes much more natural and far, far easier."
Features of the update include support for live translation, memory capabilities for previous conversations, features for text and 'vision' that allows the system to interact with images uploaded by users.
"The new voice (and video) mode is the best computer interface I've ever used," OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, said in a blog post quoted by the report. "It feels like AI from the movies; and it's still a bit surprising to me that it's real. Getting to human-level response times and expressiveness turns out to be a big change."
