Moscow Metro plans to accept payment by digital rubles, slated for circulation in 2025, on a test basis for Troika souvenir cards and Koshelek ticket balance cards, according to a press release.
The digital ruble is expected to become a form of Russian national currency alongside cash and non-cash monetary assets. The Bank of Russia will create a platform for storing "cryptorubles" which will be issued in the form of a digital code.
Based on the results of the pilot project, Moscow Metro will consider introducing the digital ruble on other means of public transportation.
