Three Narcan vending machines installed this past fall in Franklin County, Missouri, have distributed more than 1,000 doses of free naloxone and saved one life, according to an emissourian.com report.
The vending machines, located at the Mercy Medical Building in Washington, Scenic Regional Library in St. Clair and Franklin County Family Resource Center in Union, were first installed at the beginning of October by PreventEd, a non-profit group that works to prevent alcohol and substance abuse.
The machine at the St. Clair library provided a life-saving dose to an individual experiencing an overdose near the library. A patron retrieved Narcan from the machine and administered it, saving their life.
