Mastercard teams with European EV charging network on payment kiosk

Mastercard Inc. has teamed with Virta, a Helsinki, Finland-based electric vehicle charging network, and Worldpay Inc., a Cincinnati, Ohio-based payment processor, to launch the Virta payment kiosk solution for EV charging stations across Europe, according to a Yahoo Finance report.

Research conducted by Mastercard and Virta indicated 65% of Europeans prefer payment cards over multiple tags and apps.

The solution not only benefits EV drivers but also provides financial viability to charging point operators by reducing costs and implementation time by enabling multiple chargers at the same site and enabling the retrofitting of existing charging stations.

The solution integrates with Virta's EV charging money management service and meets regulatory requirements.

The Virta payment kiosk solution is available for all charging point owners on the Virta platform. The initial rollout will include charging sites in Finland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Iceland with the goal of enabling card payments at all European Virta charging sites by the end of 2025.
