The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has extended the Unified Payments Interface to its ticket vending machines and ticket/customer care counters, according to a press release.

Passengers can now make payments to recharge smart cards and purchase metro QR tickets using UPI supported mobile applications. The option eliminates the need to carry cash or debit/credit cards.

Ticket vending machines will be available at more than 125 stations in the Metro network.

DMRC has already launched various initiatives to facilitate easy top up of smart cards and ticket sales to avoid queues and save time, including the option of mobile QR tickets through Metro Travel App, Whatsapp based ticketing on the airport line, and net banking using dmrcsmartcard.com, mobile wallets and compliant payment cards.

The Unified Payments Interface is a payment system that facilitates interbank, peer-to-peer and person-to-merchant transactions.
