Core Technologie GmbH, a software manufacturer based in Germany, has unveiled its 3D-printed carbon and aluminum singlespeed bike, aiming for affordability and independence from fragile supply chains, according to a press release.
The bike was made from 3D-printed aluminum (AlMgSi10) components and lightweight, standard Carbonforce carbon tubes, along with aircraft industry two-component adhesive; the project took two months from concept to prototype.
The team used Core Technologie software 4D_Additive during the 3D design phase, and used selective laser sintering for the 3D printing process, which was accomplished with a 3D SLM printer from service partner FKM.
The project was designed as a proof of concept for complex, affordable consumer goods manufactured via the 3D printing method.
"In addition to the casual design and riding pleasure, CoreTechnologie's super-light bike put an incredulous smile on the testers' faces as soon as they picked it up," CEO Armin Brüning, CEO at Core Technologie, said in the release.
