A credit card skimmer was found on a checkout kiosk at the Walmart in Bayonne, New Jersey, on April 9, spurring an investigation by the Bayonne Police Department's Detective Bureau, according to a report from nj.com.

Police spokespersons said that methods to protect oneself from skimmers include "using cash or a credit card rather than a debit card, using a digital wallet and checking the card reader for any signs of physical damage or alterations," according to officials cited in the report.
