Tech firm Arrive (formerly Dronedek) has announced its rollout of a line of AI-powered smart mailboxes designed to combat theft via machine learning, according to a press release.

The system is designed to combat theft and "porch pirates," with $19.5 billion lost in package theft annually according to a 2022 Safewise survey.

"Some skeptics remain cautious about AI's role in delivery, but it promises improvements over the current system's weaknesses and vulnerabilities," Dan O'Toole, CEO at Arrive, said in the release. "Our smart and secure Mailbox-as-a-Service (MaaS) platform has the power to leverage AI and ML to reshape the entire industry.

"Our breakthrough innovations have demonstrated the potential to revolutionize how deliveries and pickups are made," O'Toole added. "We know businesses and customers take comfort in knowing their packages are safe and protected until they choose to retrieve them, regardless of who or what is bringing them."

Smart mailboxes and delivery point solutions also provide data centers to fuel an AI and machine learning system for delivery route and E2E customer experience optimization.

The mailboxes are designed for sustainability, accessibility, physical security, and weather resistance for delivery types including food and medication, and according to a report from WVLT in Knoxville, TN, the system can also help emergency responders trying to find 911 callers when traditional mailboxes are not clearly labeled with address numbers.

A video demonstration of the system (with robotic delivery) is available below.
