Apple has plans to use automation to make significant reductions to the number of workers on iPhone final assembly lines, according to a report from 9to5mac.com.
Citing an article from The Information, the report says Apple's automation initiative was started in response to clashes between workers and police in 2022 at Foxconn's Zhengzhou iPhone assembly plant, and the project will attempt to cut worker count in final assembly lines by up to half in coming years.
The news comes in the wake of Apple's acquisition of AI-powered firms like DarwinAI and Drishti, according to the report.
